KM3D Comparison Table

Kwik Model 3D (KM3D) is an application for quickly and easily creating a 3D computer model of a house with no CAD software or CAD experience.

It then accurately calculates the “take-offs” that are needed for heating and cooling load calculations and energy simulations. These are summarized in easy to read tables and can be exported in spreadsheet format.

The user interface is based on a very popular, super realistic video game platform. It is intuitive, fast, and fun. See for yourself.

Designed by a licensed Mechanical Engineer with 35 years of experience in performing and teaching residential HVAC design and energy modeling. His main goal is to make these tasks simple and fun – so MORE people will do it and do it BETTER.

We have several versions that feature cutting-edge energy modeling and HVAC design tools:

KM3D EAGLE

This is our full HVAC design version. It does load calcs, equipment selection and duct design. It features cutting edge HVAC design tools, including ACCA approved Manual J load calculations via “EnergyGauge Loads” a product of the Florida Solar Energy Center. Sold as a single-license package, they run together as one powerful design tool. Click here to try a free 30-Day Trial version of KM3D EAGLE.

KM3D KESTREL

This is a professional residential HVAC duct design tool that allows you to take the room by room load calculations and equipment selection from any other load calculation software and design flex duct and rigid duct systems to ensure excellent airflow and balanced comfort. Click here to download a free 30-day trial version of KM3D KESTREL.

Features:

  • KM3D KESTREL can be used to design new systems or evaluate and troubleshoot existing duct systems.
  • Use room by room load calculation values from any software, Wrightsoft, Elite, Cool Calc, Conduit, Amply, EnergyGauge, etc. (We highly recommend using ACCA certified Manual J software.)  You select the equipment; KESTREL will size the ducts for you.
  • Draw super realistic round flex duct and round or rectangular rigid ducts (sheet metal or duct board) to scale.
  • Choose from upflow, downflow, horizontal air handlers, plus ductless and ducted mini-splits.
  • Choose from the library of dozens of customizable duct fittings.
  • Export a parts list of all duct segments, fittings, start collars, register boots and register sizes that can be opened in a spreadsheet.
  • Import and scale 2D floor plan files.
  • Import special 3D house plans from CubiCasa phone app. (www.cubi.casa)
  • Draw “jumper ducts” for room pressure relief and optimizing return air pathways.
  • Draw outdoor condensers and line sets.
  • Creates a duct system parts list that can be imported to a spreadsheet.
  • Works on Mac or Windows machines!

KM3D CONDOR (Coming Soon)

This version is specifically for demonstrating compliance with the California Energy Code (Title 24, Part 6). It exports a file (.ribd22) that can be imported directly into CBECC-res, the public domain California energy code compliance software. The building file can be shared with any other KM3D version. It is currently being beta tested. We expect a release version by the end of the year.
